Elizabeth F. Herkimer

Elizabeth F. Herkimer, 88, of Caledonia/LeRoy, died Dec. 20, 2006 at her home in LeRoy. She was born April 21, 1918 in Caledonia to Theodore and Charlotte Feeley. Mrs. Herkimer graduated from the Geneseo Normal School and earned her Master's Degree from the University of Buffalo. She was the first to teach special education in Livingston County at Caledonia-Mumford Central School until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, watching sports, and especially Cal-Mum football. She is survived by her children, James (Linda) Herkimer of Syracuse, John (Maryann) Herkimer , Christine (Bob) Attridge, both of Caledonia; grandchildren, Tricia Cornell, Rachel Cornell, Rebecca Cornell, Jeffrey Attridge, Erin Herkimer and Jillian Herkimer; four great grandchildren and many friends. Her husband, James F. Herkimer predeceased Elizabeth in 1986. A private service was held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements made by Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main Street in Caledonia.

Harriet R. Hilfiker

Retired music teacher

Harriet R. Hilfiker, 92, a retired music teacher at York Central School in Retsof, died Dec. 31, 2006 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Mrs. Hilfiker was a longtime resident of Main St. in York. She is survived by her daughter Alice (Gary) Alger of Rochester; son Franklin (Jean) Hilfiker of Wilmington, Del.; grandchildren, Terilee (Eric) Shultis of Homer, N.Y., Jonathan (Mary Ann) Alger of Belle Meade, N.J., Susan (Scott Altenoff) Alger of Eugene, Ore., Julie Hilfiker of Wilmington, Del., David (Heather) Hilfiker of Colombia, Md., Peter ( Sandra Lee) Hilfiker of Rockville, Md.; 11 great grandchildren; her brother, Ross Roberts of Perry; her caregiver, John Saunders of Geneseo; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Hilfiker in 1983. She was born March 5, 1914 in Perry the daughter of Franklin and Genevieve Watson Roberts. She graduated from Perry Schools and the State University of New York at Fredonia. She was an active member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church, serving as organist for numerous services throughout the years. No prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Geneseo with Rev. Douglas Wilson officiating. Interment, Glenwood Cemetery in Perry. A reception will follow Memorial Services in the church fellowship hall. Elaine H. Kober

Retired postmaster

Elaine H. Kober, 81, a retire postmaster of the Ontario Center Post Office, died Dec. 31, 2006 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, N.Y. Mrs. Kober had been a resident of the Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw prior to her hospital admittance. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen (Reade) Moulton of York; son Raymond (Teresa) Swan of Harrisburg, Pa.; two grandsons, Reade (Julie) Moulton of Dansville, Edward (Mary) Moulton of LeRoy; three great grandchildren, Heather, Travis and Austin Moulton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Swan and William Kober. She was born Jan. 2, 1925 in Rose, N.Y., the daughter of Chelsea and Mary Cahoon Harper. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ontario, N.Y. and the Ontario Chapters of the Order of Eastern Start. Visitation was held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Tuesday. Graveside Services were held Jan. 3 at Furnaceville Cemetery on Furnace Road in Ontario, N.Y. with Rev. Cheryl Galan of the Ontario First Presbyterian Church officiating. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1638 Ridge Rd., Ontario NY 14519 or a charity of one's choice.

Kenneth W. Quackenbush

Kenneth W. Quackenbush, 70, of Mumford, died Dec. 5, 2006 at his home in Wheatland. Mr. Quackenbush was born Aug. 27, 1936 in Mumford to Edward and Louise Quackenbush. He retired from the Wheatland Highway Department. He is survived by his wife Myra; children, Sandra, Kenneth A., Robert (Linda) Quackenbush, Lisa (Toby) DeFisher; 11 grandchildren; brother, Clifford Plane; sisters, Viola DeNome, Arlene Gallo, Dorothy Uderitz, Bea Rohrkaste, Flossie Plane; many nieces and nephews. Friends called Dec. 8 at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St. in Caledonia where his service was held Dec. 9. Interment, Mumford Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Gertrude K. Robertson

Caledonia resident

Gertrude K. Robertson, 81, of Caledonia, died Dec. 19, 2006 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born July 17, 1925 to Elgin and Hattie Kersey in Adrian, Ga. Mrs. Robertson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Caledonia where she also served as secretary for over 17 years, and an active member of the Big Springs Garden Club in Caledonia. She is survived by her children, David Robertson, Carol (Steven) Spiwak; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kevin (Bianca) Spiwak; great grandchildren, Jadyn and Jacob Spiwak; sister Blanche (Moses) Powell; brothers, Lewis Kersey, Donald (Dorothy) Kersey; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Frederick Robertson III predeceased Gertrude in 2005. Calling hours were held Dec. 22 at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St. in Caledonia. Friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 3080 W. Main St. in Caledonia. A private interment took place at Mumford Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of American, 4053 Maple Road, Suite 110, Amherst NY 14226.

Mary Elizabeth Yanno

Mt. Morris resident

Mary Elizabeth Yanno, 88, of 186 S. Main St. in Mt. Morris, died Dec. 31, 2006 at Chowan Hospital in Edenton, North Carolina. She was born the daughter of Ignatius and Bertha (Buscaglia) Danese on June 22,1918 in Mt. Morris. Prior to her retirement she was employed at Mallory Timers in Mt. Morris. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She is survived by her six children, Marianne (Don) Ambrose of North Carolina, Michael F. Yanno of Rochester, Nicholas Yanno of Perry, Frances McCabe of Rochester, Richard Yanno of Florida, Frank Yanno of California; one son-in-law Mark Kleehammer of Rochester; many grand and great grandchildren; brother Arthur Danese of Fredonia; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 2003, daughter Francine Kleehammer in 1994 and son-in-law John McCabe in 2001. Friends may call Friday 4-7 p.m. at the John W. Martin Funeral Home, 37 Chapel St., (Route 408), Mt. Morris where prayers will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery.
