Betty J. Quanz

Cohocton resident

Betty J. Quanz, 81, of 6 First St., passed away Feb. 26, 2005 at Thompson Memorial Hospital in Canandaigua. She was born Jan. 15, 1924 at her home in Cohocton, the daughter of Floyd “Jack” and Pauline “Lena”(Bolster) Lyon. Betty grew up in Cohocton and during her early years her family moved to Wayland for several years. They then moved back to Cohocton where she has resided for the remainder of her life. Betty and Howard Quanz entered into marriage on Aug. 18, 1949. Together they celebrated over 41 years of marriage prior to his passing away on Feb. 22, 1991. Betty and Howard raised three children, Jack, Darlene and Sheryl. Betty was a great conversationalist who loved to help others whenever they needed it. She was also a local historian. Throughout the years, Betty enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country that included, Memphis, Tenn. and Colorado among others. She was an avid card player as evidenced by her playing pitch until 3 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday. She also enjoyed playing Bingo. Another great joy of Betty's was dining out at the local restaurants. She enjoyed being an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cohocton. Betty was predeceased by both her parents, her husband Howard in 1991, her daughter, Darlene Waite in 2000, a sister, Mae VanScoter and a brother Roy “Jack” Lyon She is survived by her son Jack Quanz and his wife Anita of Bath; her daughter, Sheryl Moore and her husband Michael of Atlanta; her son-in-law George Waite of Cohocton; grandchildren, Michael (Terri) Quanz of Scottsville, Bryan (Heather) Quanz of North Cohocton, Zachery Quanz of Bath, Brian (Amy) Moore of Atlanta, Christie Moore of Wayland; brother Rodney “Jack” (Virginia) Lyon of Avoca; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may attend Funeral Services at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cohocton. Interment, Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cohocton. Contributions in Betty J. Quanz's memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 20 S. Dansville St., Cohocton NY 14826. Betty's family has been assisted with the funeral arrangements by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland.

Lucille A. Sanderson

Nazareth College retiree

Lucille A. Sanderson, 87, of Pine Tree Park in Livonia, died Feb. 25, 2005 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville after a short illness. She was born the daughter of Ralph and Hazel Collins Paul on Sept. 14, 1917 in Richmond, N.Y. She was a retiree of Nazareth College. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Sr., sister Jeanette Wesley, great grandson Kenneth Paul Salter and loving companion Don Beckwith. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Salters, Marjorie Van Atta, Carol (Steven) Ferran; sons, Kenneth (Brenda Hale) Sanderson Jr., Robert Sanderson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandson due in March; sisters, Marian White, Thelma (Louis) Buckman; brother John (Pat Smith) Paul; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Monday at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Route 15 in Livonia where services were held Tuesday with the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Burial in the Spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Geneseo. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Livonia or Geneseo Ambulance Funds.
