Kathryn E. Buchanan

Kathryn E. “Katie” Buchanan, 78, a well known cook throughout the area, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at her residence, 2879 Garden St. in South Lima, NY. She is survived by her children James (Susan) Buchanan of Canandaigua, NY, Kathleen (David) Horne of Aiken, SC, Robert (Kathy) Buchanan of Ft.. Lauderdale, FL, Margaret (Greg) Spillers of Melbourne, FL, Thomas Buchanan of Livonia, NY, William (David Blanchard) Buchanan of Syracuse, NY, Andrea Chichester of Livonia, NY, Christopher (Laurie) Buchanan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Michael (Gary Shelto) Buchanan of NYC, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brothers John Morrow of Apoka, FL, Vincent Morrow of Geneseo, NY, Alfred Morrow of Corinth, NY, James Morrow of Baldwin, NY, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh in 1993. She was born October 18, 1922 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania the daughter of Leon and Anna (Ladley) Morrow. Katie was well known in the restaurant business having been employed at Livingston Country Club and the Big Tree Inn both in Geneseo, the National Hotel in Cuylerville, the Feedmill Restaurant and later Killers Bar and Grill, where she worked with her daughter Andrea, both in Livonia. Visitation was held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home in Geneseo on Friday. Memorials may be made to Livingston County Hospice, Liv., Do. Campus Bldg. #2 Mt. Morris NY 14510. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7 at Rector-Hicks Funeral Home 111 Main St. in Geneseo with Rev. Mark Temperato officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York.

Kathleen “Midge” Clayson

Kathleen “Midge” Clayson age 58 of Linwood, died June 29, 2001 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. She was born February 20, 1943 in Highland Park, Michigan, the daughter of Holly and Helen (McMullen) Clayson. Kathleen was a Manager/Cashier for B.J. Wholesale Club, Henrietta, NY. She is survived by her sister DeEtt (Ed) Herzog of Avon, two brothers Brian (Lesa) Clayson of Linwood and Alan (Denise) Clayson of Florida; nieces, nephews and cousins. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a time to be announced. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home Inc. Avon.

Roger Eblovi

Roger Eblovi, loving husband, father, grandfather, Grand Poohbah EMCOC, aviator, fixer of all contrivances, human and otherwise. Roger leaves his childhood sweetheart Bernice, on June 30th, 2001, around whom his work revolved, and who held all of his love, all of his respect, and all of his heart. His son David, and grandson Ian, also survive him. As founding members of the EMCOC, they will both miss his daily presence, but promise never to forget the man who always led with his heart and with his sense of honor. Roger's brother Brian Eblovi, (Janet) will always remember their shared childhood memories, and his brother in law Bernard Johnson, (Helen) will save a place for him at the helm, should he decide to go for a spin on WeTwo II. Poochie and Poochie II will always long for the presence of the man who defined their existence and will forever remember the diligence, care, and love which he provided for them both. At the end of his life, Roger believed that true immortality is found not in the heavens, but in the minds and the memories of those we love. We will long remember and for all time cherish the memory of a man who, in the end, could fix everything and everyone he ever touched. Except himself. Esther M. Farruggia

Esther M. Farruggia, 79, died Friday, July 6, 2001 at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. Miss Farruggia lived at 3431 Retsof Rd. in Retsof, NY. She is survived by her brother Carmen Farruggia of Wadsworth, 2 sisters Grace Farruggia of Retsof, Mary (Arthur) Bernecker of York, sisters in law Carol Farruggia of Retsof, Mary Ellen (Jim) Callahan of Retsof, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Farruggia, and her mother, Michalina Arrigenna Farruggia, sister Anna Pavoni, brothers James Farruggia, Joseph Farruggia, Charles Farruggia Jr. She was born July 23, 1921 in Retsof, NY the daughter of Charles and Michalina (Arrigenna) Farruggia. Esther was an active member of St. Lucy's Church in Retsof. Visitation was held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home on Sunday and Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Lucy's Church, Box 195, Leicester NY 14481 or Retsof Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 92, NY 14539. Funeral services was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at 10:00 am at St. Lucy's Church with Father George Okoth officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.

Richard Felstead

Richard Felstead, 55, of Lima/West Bloomfield, died suddenly on July 8, 2001 in West Bloomfield. He was born on Dec. 19, 1945, in Honeoye Falls, the son of George Felstead and Glenna (Bartlett) Felstead. He was employed by the Honeoye Falls Central School system. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Owens in 1995. He is survived by his son Scott Felstead of Madison, Wis.; parents, George and Glenna Felstead of West Bloomfield; two sisters and brother-in-law, Cheryl (Frank) Witkop of Ft. Worth, Texas and Barbara Whitaker of Farmington, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Roger (Cindy) Felstead of Lima; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the O'Connell-Dougherty Funeral Home in Lima with the Rev. Kay Michelinie officiating. Contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 5500 Main St., Suite 110, Williamsville, N.Y. 14221, in his memory. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Frank J. Gullo Sr.

Frank J. Gullo Sr. of Ridge Road Mt. Morris, July 6, 2001 died suddenly at the age of 73. He was born in 1928 the son of Joseph and Frances Pagano Gullo in Mt. Morris. Frank joined the national guard in 1948 and was a member of the Hally Allen Post 1341 of Sonyea, NY. He retired as head cook from the Craig Developmental Center at Sonyea. Later he worked part time at BOCES Mt. Morris in their janitorial services. His hobbies included hunting, horseshoes, playing cards and spending time with his loving family and many friends. Besides his living wife of 53 years, Betty (Taber) Gullo, 3 sons Frank (Kathleen) Gullo Jr., David (Penny) Gullo, Joseph (Nike) Gullo and special friend Connie, all of Mt. Morris. A brother Sam (Erma) Gullo of Nunda. Sisters Josephine Rongo and Helen Lapiana. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Leroy and Nancy Taber of Wales Center, Donald and Brenda Tabor of Mt. Morris, Mary Gullo Mt. Morris and Mel Gullo of Cylerville, Grandchildren Christina (Steven) Gullo, Paulie of Chili, Stephen Gullo of Colorado, Jessica, Julia Gullo of Alabama, Joseph (Joey) Gullo of Livonia. Also many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Jerry, Charles, Anthony Gullo. Family and friends received visitors Sunday at the Shepard Funeral Home Inc., 36 Chapel St. Mt. Morris. Frank's mass of Christian burial took place at St. Patrick's Church on Monday July 9. Internment followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Memorials to the America Heart Association, or Mercy Flight Central or Mt. Morris Town Ambulance.

Roland R. Hill

Roland Roe Hill, 85, died on July 1, 2001 at F.F. Thompson Memorial Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. Mr. Hill was born on December 21, 1915 in Goshen, NY, the son of Frank Hill and Ruth (Roe) Hill. He was a retired parts manager from Pacesetter Nissan in Rochester, NY. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, and a member of the VFW Kenneth Keating Post #29 in Lima, NY. As member of the post he served as Quartermaster, and Post Commander. In 1985 Roland was instrumental in starting the Lima Down Hill Derby which he ran for the last 15 years. He is survived by his children Melodye Mack of Rochester, Heather Roll of Webster, Robert (Debbie) Hill of Lima, Holly (John) O'Shaughnessy of Bartonsville, PA, Martha (Richard) Chase of MA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours and Funeral Services were held at the O'Connell-Dougherty Funeral Home, Lima. Rev. Corey Keyes officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family in Oakridge Cemetery, Lima, NY.

Eugenia Ellis Nye

Eugenia Ellis Nye, 85, died June 13, 2001, in Florida. She was born the daughter of John and Olive Dunn Nye in Savona, Steuben County, on March 28, 1916. She graduated from Geneseo High School. She was a talented musician and played violin with the Community Orchestra at Geneseo State College. While living in Avon, Eugenia was a correspondent for area weekly newspapers. A memorial service for Eugenia was held at the First Baptist Church in Florida on June 21. She will be buried at Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo.

Ruth M. Preston

Ruth M. Preston, age 91 of Avon died Saturday June 30, 2001 at her home. She was born June 23, 1910 in Buffalo, NY the daughter of Robert and Bessie (Snyder) Purdy. Predeceased by her husband Harold, son Larry and granddaughter Susan; she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Ann Preston of Avon, daughter Patricia Dye of Williamson and daughter-in-law Marie Preston of Rochester. Grandchildren Michael, John, Joel, and Rachel Preston, Lori Buchannon, Lisa Pearlstein, Kenneth Lautner Jr. and Deborah Carpenter. Nine Great Grandchildren; a brother Robert Purdy of East Aurora; many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service was held Wednesday July 11, 2001 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Avon. Interment, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Fowlerville. Larry Settles

Memorial services for Larry Settles will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Second Baptist Church, 957 George St. in Mumford. Memorials to Clayton A. Cole Scholarship Fund, c/o Second Baptist Church in Larry's name will be appreciated. Larry Settles, departed this life June 15, 2001 at Hollywood Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla. He was the son of Charles Settles and the late Vivian Settles. Larry was baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Mumford. He attended school in Geneseo and Brockport State University. After returning to Richmond County, he joined the First Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Johnny Bussey. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Linda White. Larry will be sadly missed by his family and friends in Geneseo, Rochester, Hephzibah, Ga. and Hollywood, Fla. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Linda White Settles; three stepsons, Michael, Jason and Howard Vanduyne; three daughters-in-law, Heather, Susie and Donna Vanduyne; three grandsons, Chase, Kobe and Jair Vanduyne; his father, Charlie Settles, mother, Ruth Heath Settles of Geneseo; four brothers, Danny Heath, David Heath, Joseph Heath and Kelly Heath; one sister, Teresa Heath; three God sisters, Brenda Bell, Hephzibah, Gal, Fredricka Jones, Augusta, Ga. and Vivian L. Alfred Stephan

Alfred Stephan, age 86, of Conesus died Thursday July 5, 2001 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. He was born the son of Joseph and Anna Neugebauer Stephan on April 12, 1915 in Neustadt Germany. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his son Donald (Jane) Stephan of Rochester, foster son Nick Pawlizko of LS, Grandchildren Crystal Stephan of Rochester, Phil (Lynn) Lombardo. Sister Annie Pohlar of Germany. Several nieces and nephews. No prior calling. Friends attended a funeral mass Monday 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. John H. Hayes officiating. Ruth Woodruff

On Saturday July 14 a memorial service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church in Avon for Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth Hooker) Woodruff at 1:30 p.m. Ruth Woodruff has resided in New Jersey near her son Paul for the past 10 years. She died March 29. She was a University of Michigan music major, and taught music at Akron, Lima and Livonia Elementary Schools. In later years she was a substitute at both Livonia and Avon Central. Father Phil Schaefer, a long-time pastor at Zion, will return to Avon to conduct the service.
